In Canada, where the warnings on the packages are not considered effective enough, the government plans to mandate those messages be printed on each cigarette.

A separate warning will be printed on each cigarette in Canada

Canada will be the first country in the world to launch this new application, as the current one was launched 20 years ago and the authorities believe that the warning messages and images in each package have lost their effect.

The minister responsible for mental health and addiction held a press conference yesterday, saying “they planned to implement this practice, thinking that they needed to find something stronger than the messages in the packages”. She emphasized that especially young people borrowed cigarettes from each other in the environments where they socialize, and they often didn’t see or notice the message on the package.

On every cigarette, the following message will be printed: “There is poison in every puff you take”. In addition, there will also be negative health messages such as, “Smoking makes cancer”.

The trial process has started. The government aims to make implementation mandatory in the second half of 2023.
