A joint statement from Turkey’s FM Cavusoglu and Russian FM Lavrov on grain agreement

At a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said “We have discussed the grain corridor issue.” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov came to Turkey to negotiate various issues on the bilateral and international agenda at the invitation of Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Cavusoglu, who made a statement at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Lavrov, said: “Sergey and I also discussed the issue of the grain corridor today. We attach importance to the continuation of the agreement. This agreement is also important in terms of reducing the world food crisis.”

Çavuşoğlu’s explanations were as follows:

We met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba in Brussels, and I invited him to Turkey. Russia showed support and solidarity during the Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes. We have a busy agenda with Sergey Lavrov. We discussed the grain agreement and regional developments.

There is an understanding between the UN and Russia. The UN has efforts in this regard. We also support these efforts. It is necessary to meet Russia’s expectations in this regard. All of these problems must be resolved in order for the grain agreement to be extended.
