A move from Egypt that will disrupt relations: anti-dumping forTurkish products

The Egyptian government has introduced anti-dumping duties on plastic products originating from Turkey, a move that could disrupt Cairo- Ankara relations. In recent years, Egypt had introduced a similar practice on steel and carpet products.

The political tension between Egypt and Turkey, in effect since 2013, has been replaced by moderate mood over the past few months. Turkey’s statements to support the Muslim Brotherhood had increased tensions between the two countries, and trade had also been affected by this. The difficult relations that have been going on for 8 years between the Cairo Administration and Ankara, which has been building walls in various ways, including boycotts against Turkish products, was subject to official negotiations for the first time this year.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Samih Shukri had made statements saying that the first contact was in September and the second contact was in November provided information regarding the second round of talks between Turkish and Egyptian Foreign Ministry officials and outlined their expectations from Ankara.
