A prison sentence and a political ban on Canan KAFTANCIOGLU, head of CHP in Istanbul province
CHP Istanbul Provincial President Canan KAFTANCIOGLU’s sentence in three cases was upheld by the Supreme Court. A political ban was also imposed on KAFTANCIOGLU who was sentenced to 4 years and 11 months in prison. CHP leader KILICDAROGLU called on all deputies of the party to get together at CHP headquarters in Istanbul immediately.
The 3rd Criminal Division of Supreme Court completed the appeal review on the case, in which she was tried and convicted by 37th Criminal Court on September 6, 2019.
The sentences of 1 year, 6 months and 20 days given for ‘insulting a public official for his duty‘ and 1 year and 8 months given for ‘publicly humiliating the State of the Republic of Turkey’ were upheld. The sentence of ‘insulting the president’ was reduced from 2 years and 4 months to 1 year and 9 months and was upheld.
It was stated that the elements of the crimes of ‘spreading propaganda of an armed terrorist organization‘ and ‘publicly inciting hatred and hostility towards the people’ were not found.

Therefore, I would like to tell my friends who are wondering, who are calling, who are asking, that we will continue to work in this country not only for Canan Kaftancioglu, but also for 84 million, until we send the evil in power and until we ensure the rule of law.
Now I will continue to work again by going to Istanbul. Never, ever lose hope. We will take away the evil in power by organizing hope. That is the time when true justice and true law will be established in this country.”
