A village from Turkey has entered the list of the 32 best villages in the world

Birgi village which represents the historical and cultural heritage of ÖDEMİŞ town in Izmir region, has been included in the UNWTO 2022 List of the Best Tourism Villages determined by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). Birgi has become one of the top 32 tourism villages in the world in 2022.

The inclusion of Birgi Neighborhood in the list of “The Best Villages of the World in 2022” was welcomed with joy. Birgi, which is stated to have been used as a settlement since 750 BC, welcomes thousands of visitors every year with its architectural texture dating from the time of the Aydınoğulları.

WHERE IS THE BIRGI VILLAGE-NEIGHBORHOOD?

Birgi is a neighborhood of ODEMIS district of Izmir. It is located 10 km from the district center.

It is a fact that Birgi has been used as a settlement place since 750 BC. It welcomes thousands of visitors every year with its architectural texture dating back to the time of the Aydınoğulları (a state established in Anatolia many years ago). The village also offers traces from the Phrygian, Lydian, Persian, Pergamon, Roman and Byzantine periods.

The mansions in Birgi is known to host movie sets.
