TOURISTS IN BODRUM

While the activity of domestic tourists has decreased in Bodrum, the leading tourism district of Muğla, foreign tourists have taken over. It is reported that hotel occupancy rates are in the 80% range.

The movement of both local and foreign tourists continues in Bodrum, one of the world’s most important tourism destinations. As of the end of August, 1.3 million tourists arrived in Bodrum via Milas-Bodrum Airport, and 59,100 foreign tourists arrived on 65 cruise ships.

A tourism professional stated that in September, hotel occupancy rates had reached 80%, with nightly accommodation prices starting at 1,500 Turkish Lira per person.

BRITISH TOURISTS IN LEAD

Same person mentioned that some of the tourists arriving on international flights preferred to go to the town of Didim in Aydın adding “September and the autumn season are the most beautiful months in Bodrum. This year, 1.3 million foreign guests have arrived so far from international flights, with British tourists leading the way for years.”

“Following Brits are tourists from Russia, Germany, and Poland. This number will continue to rise in September and October. Not all of the 1.3 million people who arrived stayed in Bodrum; some of them go to Didim. In addition, cruise ships continue to come to our city. 65 cruise ships brought a total of 59,100 foreign tourists to Bodrum. Tourists stay on the ship but contribute to our businesses by shopping.”

“PRICES WILL DROP EVEN FURTHER AFTER SEPTEMBER 20”

He stated that in September and October, they mainly hosted foreign tourists and middle-aged retirees. “The middle-aged group of guests has started to come to Bodrum. Currently, the hotel occupancy rate is around 80%. If the weather in October remains mild and warm, the occupancy will continue. Normally, we don’t expect 80% occupancy in October; this number would be lower. After the so-called high season of 45 days, there is generally a 40% drop in prices in September and October. This period offers a vacation opportunity for our guests in both the domestic and foreign markets.”

He went on to say, “There will be a price reduction again in September and October. After September 20, you can find an opportunity to holiday for 1,500 Turkish Lira per person. Despite high hotel occupancy rates due to inflation, there is a decrease in profitability.”
