From laboratory to table: US Food & Drug Administration approves artificial chicken meat

According to the technology and culture magazine WIRED, this decision of the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is a milestone for eating habits, sustainability and the meat industry.

Work on the production of artificial meat had been gaining momentum for some time. Entrepreneurs have raised billions of dollars in funds and conducted experiments on producing artificial meat in small-scale production facilities. They were also successful, but they could not sell said products to the public. Only a small number of people were able to taste the products, ‘admitting that it was experimental’. In other words, there was no one to hold responsible if they suffered any harm from the meat. Because the meat produced was not approved by the FDA, which is responsible for food safety.

ARTIFICIAL CHICKEN MEAT IN THE MARKET BEFORE LONG

A company called Upside Foods, will soon introduce artificial chicken meat produced in bioreactors using real animal cells, to the US Sunday. There are two small steps left to take this ‘chicken‘ to market: obtaining approval for production facilities and obtaining an inspection mark before entering the market. However, it is expected that both of these transactions will be carried out quickly.
