According to the Turkish Statistical Institute, 49.6% of Turkey’s population is happy
According to the results of the 2024 TÜİK Life Satisfaction Survey, the percentage of individuals who declared themselves happy in Turkey decreased to 49.6% in 2024, compared to 52.7% in 2023. The percentage of those who reported being unhappy increased from 13.7% in 2023 to 14.5% in 2024.
When examined by gender, women were happier than men in 2024. The percentage of women who declared themselves happy was 52.3%, while the percentage for men was 46.9%. Additionally, married individuals were found to be happier than unmarried individuals. The happiness rate for married individuals was 52.5%, while it was 44.0% for unmarried individuals. Married women were more likely to report being happy than married men.
Among age groups, happiness increased in the 25-34 age group, from 50.7% in 2023 to 51.0% in 2024. In contrast, happiness decreased in all other age groups, with the largest decrease seen in the 45-54 age group, where the happiness rate dropped from 53.6% in 2023 to 46.5% in 2024.
Family was the most significant source of happiness for individuals, with 72.9% of people reporting that their family made them happy. Children were the second most common source of happiness at 13.2%. The most significant source of happiness for individuals was being healthy, with 68.3% citing it as a key factor.
In terms of hope for the future, 64.3% of individuals expressed optimism. Women were slightly more hopeful than men, with 64.9% of women reporting optimism compared to 63.6% of men.
The average life satisfaction level for individuals in both 2023 and 2024 was 5.7. Regarding satisfaction with public services, the highest satisfaction rate was seen in law enforcement services at 72.1%, followed by transportation at 67.4% and healthcare at 63.2%.
Finally, the most significant issue facing Turkey in 2024 was the cost of living, which ranked first at 29.2%. Education and poverty ranked second and third, with 15.7% and 14.0%, respectively.
