It has been reported that dozens of small-scale earthquakes occurred in the Aegean and Mediterranean regions in the last 24 hours. Following a series of tremors, Greece has decided to hold an “emergency” meeting, and experts have issued warnings.

According to data from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and Kandilli Observatory, many tremors have been detected in the Aegean and Mediterranean seas.

After several small and large tremors occurred yesterday, today saw several more, the largest being a magnitude 4.8 earthquake. In the Mediterranean, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake took place at 14:18.

LATEST EARTHQUAKES…

AFAD reported that multiple tremors of magnitudes 3.3, 3.5, 3.6, 4.4, 4.5, and 4.8 occurred in the evening hours. The most recent earthquake occurred at 20:45 with a magnitude of 4.4.

AT LEAST 10 EARTHQUAKES OF MAGNITUDE 4 OR HIGHER

Additionally, earthquakes were reported near Greece and several islands in the Mediterranean and Aegean, with at least 11 earthquakes ranging from 4.0 to 4.8 in magnitude.

CALL TO CITIZENS IN THE AEGEAN REGION

Addressing citizens living in the Aegean, Professor Görür said, “Friends, I had previously mentioned the increasing frequency of earthquakes north-east of Santorini Island in the Aegean Sea of Greece. Due to the growing frequency today, I advise those living near this area on our Aegean coasts to be cautious,” he stated.
