Agreement Reached in Trump-Putin Meeting

A meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has resulted in an agreement that the Russia-Ukraine war should end with a “lasting peace” and that comprehensive negotiations should continue.

The White House announced that U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed that the Russia-Ukraine conflict had to end with “a lasting peace” and that extensive negotiations should be pursued.

The White House released a written statement regarding the approximately 2.5-hour phone call between the two leaders. The statement included the phrase: “Both leaders agreed that this conflict should end with a lasting peace.”

The statement also noted that the Russia-Ukraine war was one that should never have started or should have ended long ago. The leaders agreed that the path to peace should begin with a ceasefire on energy and infrastructure, along with the implementation of a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea, and continue with technical negotiations towards a full ceasefire and a permanent peace.

The statement indicated that ceasefire negotiations would begin immediately in the Middle East, although no details were provided on the location of the talks.

It was also reported that Putin and Trump agreed that improving bilateral relations between the U.S. and Russia would benefit both countries.

The statement noted, “The leaders discussed the Middle East broadly as a potential area for cooperation to prevent future conflicts.” The two leaders also agreed to work together with other countries to stop the proliferation of strategic weapons.

According to the statement, the leaders also shared the view that “Iran should never be in a position to destroy Israel.”
