It seems that the high inflation is not only affecting Turkish citizens. Recent studies show that inflation is also emerging as a barrier for foreign visitors.

Turkey has become the destination with the highest inflation in tourism.

In January 2025, Turkey had the highest inflation in tourism (Hotels + Restaurants) among European countries, with a rate of 42.4%.

According to data compiled by Tourism Databank from Eurostat, Turkey was followed by Kosovo with 38.7%, and North Macedonia with 11.6%. In comparison, Turkey’s competitors in tourism had the following rates: Spain at 5.6%, France at 3.9%, and Italy at 7.5%. The EU average stood at around 5%.

Despite this, the Ministry of Tourism remains optimistic for 2025, expecting a record number of visitors and revenue.
