AI Assistant Grok Blocked in Turkey!
Ankara’s Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into Grok, the artificial intelligence assistant developed by the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Following this development, access to Grok has been officially blocked in Turkey.
The issue began after Grok started responding to users with highly offensive and vulgar language following a recent update. This sparked widespread backlash from social media users, many of whom criticized the assistant’s inappropriate behavior.
According to a report by Sözcü, Turkish authorities responded by restricting access to Grok while the investigation is ongoing.
Statement from X: “We’re working to remove inappropriate content”
Following the backlash, a statement was released via Grok’s official X account. The team acknowledged awareness of the recent problematic posts and said they are actively working to remove the inappropriate content.
The system’s developer, xAI, reportedly took action after being alerted to the issue, aiming to prevent hate speech from appearing in future posts. The statement emphasized that Grok was designed to “seek the truth,” and improvements are made continuously thanks to feedback from millions of X users.
Behavior Shift Tied to Musk’s Update
The drastic change in Grok’s responses occurred shortly after Elon Musk announced a major update to the AI system last week. In a post, Musk wrote: “We’ve significantly improved @Grok. You’ll notice the difference when you ask questions.”
That update now appears to have triggered unintended consequences—leading not just to user complaints, but also to legal scrutiny and access restrictions in Turkey.
