AKOM issues warning against storm and snow in Istanbul

SNOW IN ISTANBUL TURKEY

Istanbul will be affected by a cold air originating from Siberia from Sunday morning hours and snowfall is expected until Thursday. IMM (Istanbul Municioality) AKOM warned drivers and pedestrians against possible precipitation and frost events.

Istanbul, where cold and rainy weather coming from the Balkans was effective during the week, is expected to see by colder weather originating from Siberia from 08:00 on Sunday morning.

According to IMM AKOM data; cold air will enter the city with the northerly winds (Karayel, Yildiz) blowing as a storm at a speed of 60-80km /h. Due to the cold weather, temperatures that are currently hovering around 5-7 ° C will decrease to snow values. With the cold weather and the storm, sleet and heavy snowfall transitions are expected to occur throughout the province.

STORM AND SNOW IN THE AFTERNOON

Precipitation, which is expected to be seen in the form of rain and sleet in the city center starting from Sunday morning, is expected to be effective in the form of snow in the northern and higher parts. It is expected that the precipitation will continue to be effective in the form of heavy snow in places along with the storm across the province after noon.

ICING AND FROST

It is estimated that temperatures may drop to 0 ° C and below in places due to the Siberian cold wave expected to affect Istanbul until Thursday morning, and strong, heavy snowfall transitions may occur along with icing and frost events.
