The 11th of the “Six-Party Table” meetings, which were attended by the leaders of the CHP, the GOOD Party, the Felicity Party, the Democratic Party, the DEVA Party and the Future Party, was hosted by the GOOD (Iyi) Party. A Political Scientist evaluated both the Six-Party Table meetings and the latest developments in politics shortly before the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Some experts say that according to opinion polls, the numerical strength of the Nation’s Alliance is not enough to win the presidential election or even get a majority in parliament. They note that although recent opinion polls indicate there has been some increase in the votes of the Public’s Alliance, it is difficult to interpret this increase as a recovery by increasing the votes expected by the alliance. Despite a maximum total increase of 3-4 percentage points in the surveys of reliable firms, there is still a rate that is 10-12 percentage points behind the level of votes compared to the 2018 elections. Under the conditions of the economic crisis, the AK Party is aware that it is difficult for it to reach its former share of the vote, so it has turned to electoral policies in order to at least reach a support that will win the presidential and parliamentary elections. Apparently, the policy preferences are populist in nature because the projects are implemented as the election approaches and it should not be ignored that economic populism could be great support to win elections. The government is trying to do this with the housing campaign, the legal regulation aimed at solving the EYT (delayed retirement issue) problem and various economic amnesty applications etc.”

SIX-PARTY TABLE SHOULD TURN INTO ELECTORAL ALLIANCE

An expert points out that the 2023 elections will coincide with the year marking the 100th anniversary of the declaration of the Republic adding “The choice that the voter will make at the ballot box will be the decision about what kind of country they want to live in in the second century of the Republic.”

He goes on to say, “Given the practices of the AK Party government, especially after 2015, and the Public’s Alliance’s view of the economy, politics and society, it is difficult to expect economic, political and cultural changes if they win the elections. Because their political orientations, ideological references, and the values they feed on are not suitable for this. Moreover, with the new self-confidence that winning the elections will create, there is a risk that Turkey will go even further back on the basis of democratization, human rights, sharing of economic resources, coexistence, equal citizenship.”

TURKEY COULD BECOME A COUNTRY AGAIN WHICH BELONGS TO MODERN WORLD

Same experts also has shared following: “In case the Nation’s Alliance turns into an electoral alliance and wins a legislative majority and the presidential election it seems likely for Turkey to become a country again which belongs to the modern world again and a country where democratic recession ends, poverty can be decrease and fair sharing within opportunities is maintained and the state turns into one that provides a fair and equitable treatment to all parties, judging on the rhetoric and the image the table of six (Nation’s Alliance) have shared so far.” (yeniasya.com.tr/gundem/demokrasinin-onunu-millet-ittifaki-acar_573410 Translated)
