Erdoğan: Ankara Will Take Its Place at the Center of Global Diplomacy

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that Ankara will experience a major rise in international visibility as the Turkish capital prepares to host important global meetings.

Speaking at an AK Party organization gathering in Ankara, Erdoğan stated that the city will host the NATO Summit 2026 on July 7–8 and later welcome the Organization of Turkic States Summit.

According to Erdoğan, these events will bring world leaders to Ankara and help the capital become recognized as a major center of global diplomacy.

NATO Summit and Turkic States Meeting to Put Ankara in the International Spotlight

Erdoğan highlighted that Ankara will welcome many international leaders during the NATO summit, including the President of the United States, and that preparations are continuing at full speed.

He also said that the later Turkic States Summit will bring together leaders from the Turkic world, making Ankara an important meeting point for international cooperation.

“Ankara’s international visibility will increase like never before,” Erdoğan said, adding that the capital will be remembered as a center of global diplomacy.

Ankara’s Historic Role as Turkey’s Capital

During his speech, Erdoğan emphasized that Ankara is not an ordinary capital city.

He described Ankara as a city connected with Turkey’s War of Independence, national resistance, and the foundation of the modern republic.

He also referred to Ankara’s cultural and spiritual heritage, mentioning figures such as Hacı Bayram-ı Veli and the city’s historical importance as a meeting point between different civilizations.

According to Erdoğan, Ankara has always represented determination, independence, and national identity.

New Ankara Airport Facilities Prepared for International Events

Erdoğan also mentioned the reopening and modernization of Ankara Airport, which he said will initially support the NATO Summit and future official state visits.

He explained that the upgraded airport includes expanded runways, new aprons, and improved infrastructure designed to serve large aircraft and official delegations.

The facility is expected to reduce pressure on Esenboğa Airport and improve Ankara’s capacity for hosting international events.

Ankara’s Development and Infrastructure Investments

In his speech, Erdoğan highlighted government investments in Ankara across many sectors, including transportation, healthcare, education, technology, energy, tourism, and urban development.

He said Ankara has received major infrastructure projects and described the city as one of the key examples of Turkey’s development vision.

Erdoğan emphasized that his government’s approach focuses on solving problems through projects and services rather than postponing challenges.

Ankara’s Growing International Importance

The planned diplomatic events represent another step in Ankara’s increasing international role.

While Istanbul remains Turkey’s main global tourism and business city, Ankara continues to strengthen its position as the country’s political and diplomatic center.

Hosting major summits can increase the city’s visibility among foreign governments, international organizations, media outlets, and business communities.

For visitors interested in Turkey’s modern history, politics, architecture, and state institutions, Ankara is becoming an increasingly significant destination.
