Authority cuts down trees to make a free public beach at Içmeler location in Marmaris

Cutting down trees to make a free public beach on an 11-kilometer natural beach between the Marmaris district center of Muğla and the Icmeler District caused environmentalists to revolt. President of “Marmaris code 48 Environmental Protection Association” said: “will this free space be opened to provide some people with some benefits? If the tender is to be held, what will be the conditions? If these auctions will take place will they be for the benefit of the people and tradesmen of Marmaris?”.

On the other hand, Marmaris Municipality shared the incident was not related to them.

Authority started to make 11 kilometers a free public beach on the natural beach between Marmaris of Muğla (with 149 km of coast) and Içmeler district. However, cutting down trees made environmentalists to revolt.

TREES HAVE BEEN CUT DOWN AND CONCRETE HAS STARTED TO INCREASE

The President of concerned NGO made the following statement in regards: Expressing his reaction to the concretion, he said: “the process is not acceptable in the name of anything, aside from our association. If such a place was to be built, at least the green should be protected, more natural structures should be preferred instead of concrete. The “Altın Sahil” beach has been open for free until now and our people use it for free spending an economical, enjoyable day. It was already a public beach, what was the need for it?”
