FLAMINGOS DEAD AT SALT LAKE TURKEY

Konya Governor’s office has announced an investigation into the flamingo deaths in Salt Lake. In a statement, the governor’s office said that a commission was established on the work to be done in the region.

The statement also said, “On 13 July 2021, the necessary research and investigation work has been initiated by our governorship on flamingo deaths in Konya-Cihanbeyli Gölyazı region of Tuz (Salt) Lake. In addition, an expert commission established by our governorship conducts reviews on issues that negatively affect the life cycle of flamingos and measures that can be taken, in this area.”

5 thousand cubs are estimated to have died

It is estimated that about 5 thousand Cubs have died this year in the Salt Lake, where flamingos are on the migration path and hatched. Citizens in the area say the lake has dried up “due to wild irrigation” and the cubs have died of thirst.

Salt Lake, located within the borders of Konya, Ankara and Aksaray, is a closed Lake because there is no water outlet. Due to the fact that the birds are on the migration path, many bird species stay here in spring and summer.
