Ban does not stop women’s “Feminist Night March” at Taksim, Istanbul: “We’re not afraid, we’re not obeying!”

The Feminist Night March which is organized every year at Taksim on the occasion of International women’s day on March 8, was banned by the Beyoğlu District Governorship this year, as well. Due to the call to Taksim, all streets were closed with police barriers. Women who ignored the decision, gathered on the streets of Beyoğlu despite the ban.

The Feminist Night March which is held every year at Taksim on the occasion of International women’s day on March 8, was banned this year, as well. Women who did not recognize the decision started to gather for a Feminist Night March to be organized at Taksim to voice their rights demands. The police blockaded Taksim square. The women who filled the streets of Cihangir called on the government to resign, chanted slogans “We won’tnot shut up, we are not afraid, we won’t obey”.

The women who began to gather on Cihangir Street said, “Those who want to block us should know that we will continue to be on the streets with our rebellion against patriarchy, capitalism, the rent system you rely on, heterosexism, transphobia, racism, nationalism, religious oppression, exploitation, impoverishment, imprisonment, borders, sieges, war, male-state violence.”
