Turkey: Big hike of 35 percent in beer prices

Özgür Aybaş, President of the Turkish Monopoly Dealers Platform, said that beer varieties had been increased by 35 percent as of Wednesday January 4th, when the excise duty increase announced yesterday was added to the increase made by the companies. Speaking to SÖZCÜ, Aybaş explained that this ratio had reached 50 percent in imported beer varieties.

Beer prices that were raised before Christmas have received another raise as of today.

When the excise duty increase announced yesterday was added to the increase made by the companies, beer varieties were increased by 35 percent as of today. This rate reached 50 percent in imported beer varieties.

President of the Turkish Monopoly Dealers Platform, speaking to media announced that beer prices had increased by an average of 10 TL with this increase, while this increase hd changed in the gap of 13-15 TL for high alcohol and imported groups.

At the beginning of December, there was a 10 percent increase in imported beer varieties, as well.

PRICE JUMPED FROM TL 30 TO  TL 45: IT HAS BECOME A LUXURY

With today’s hike, the price of the cheapest beer has also increased from 22 TL to 33 TL.

Some types of beer increased from 28 TL to 38 TL, one type of beer increased from 30 TL to 45 TL, and another type of beer belonging to the same group increased from 50 TL to 70 TL.

He made a statement on his social media account, “Drinking beer at these prices has become a luxury now”.
