Barbers in Ankara and Istanbul will be closed on Sundays

The practice of barbers, hairdressers, and beauty salons being closed one day a week nationwide has come into effect. Following this implementation, barbers in Ankara and Istanbul have decided not to work on Sundays.

The Ministry of Trade’s regulation requiring barbers, hairdressers, and beauty salons to be closed one day a week nationwide has led barbers in Ankara and Istanbul to decide not to work on Sundays. The ministry had previously decided that barbers, hairdressers, and beauty salons would be closed one day a week after evaluating requests and suggestions from the sector.

REGULATION IN EFFECT AS OF JULY 1

This regulation came into effect as of July 1, and it was announced that administrative sanctions would be applied to businesses found open on the designated days set by the governorships.

A PLEASING DECISION FOR BARBERS

Commenting on the issue, the President of the Istanbul Barbers’ Association stated that barbers in Istanbul would be closed on Sundays. Akyüz expressed that this decision was pleasing for barbers, saying, “There was actually such a practice before, but with the Ministry’s sensitivity on the matter, this situation has been legally established. According to the survey we conducted among our tradesmen, 93% of our barbers wanted the weekly holiday to be on Sunday.”
