Russia has granted them asylum.

Russia Grants Asylum to Assad

TASS reported, citing an anonymous source from the Kremlin, that Russia has granted asylum to Assad. The report indicates that Assad and his family have already arrived in Moscow, and the asylum was provided for humanitarian reasons.

The report also mentioned that Russian officials have been in contact with opposition representatives in Syria regarding the security of Russian military bases and diplomatic facilities in the country.

Developments in Syria

The conflict between anti-regime armed groups and Bashar al-Assad’s forces escalated on November 27. Between November 30 and December 7, opposition groups gained control in major cities such as Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, and Homs.

On December 7, opposition groups, supported by large crowds, entered Damascus. As a result, Assad’s regime lost control of the capital and many other regions, ultimately collapsing. The Ba’ath Party’s 61-year rule has ended, and Assad fled the capital.

The Syrian National Army, after liberating the town of Tal Rifaat near the Turkish border from PKK/YPG forces, shifted focus to targeting terrorists in Manbij.
