Breaking News: Pfizer’s vaccine prevents corona virus by 90 percent

A study involving tens of thousands of volunteers found that the corona virus vaccine, developed by Pfizer and BioNTech SE, prevents infection by more than 90 percent. A statement from US pharmaceutical company Pfizer said the experimental corona virus vaccine was successful in the final stage of clinical trials, marking a milestone in the fight against the pandemic.

The company said the vaccine would not be available to people immediately and it would be evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

In a study conducted with tens of thousands of volunteers, one group was given two doses of experimental vaccine and the other group was given a saline placebo. The study showed that the vaccine was more than 90 percent effective.

“Today is a great day for science and humanity,” said Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, “Stage 3 is the first results of our COVID-19 vaccine trial. This stage reveals the first evidence of our vaccine’s ability to prevent COVID-19”.

Shares of US-based Pfizer rose by 13 per cent and German-based BioNTech rose by 26 per cent after news that the corona virus vaccine was more than 90 per cent effective.
