Campers react to ‘Accommodation Tax’ to be applied in 2023
The request from Ministry of Treasury and Finance to levy 2 percent tax on accommodation such as tents, caravans, bungalows as of January 1, 2023, caused the reaction of campers using tents and caravans.
ZEHRA KURU, a lady camper who started a signature campaign she started on behalf of campers said “We, as campers, are people who care about nature instead of 5-star hotels, while already suffering from the current economic situation in the country.”
“WE ARE PEOPLE WHO TAKE CARE FOR NATURE INSTEAD OF 5-STAR HOTELS“
Zehra Kuru said the following about the signature campaign she started on behalf of the campers:
“The draft communiqué of the accommodation tax to be applied by the Revenue Administration which will enter into force on January 1, 2023 has been prepared. Accordingly, the campers will be required to pay 2 percent tax for accommodation such as bungalows, tents, caravans within the scope of said accommodation tax. As campers, we are people who care for nature instead of 5-star hotels, while already suffering from the current economic situation in the country.”
“EVERYTHING IS BEING DONE TO MAKE US SECOND-CLASS PEOPLE”
KURU asked how such an activity could possibly be taxable without even taking into consideration whether campers took care of their needs personally, through their own means
She went on to say “Everything is being done to make us second-class people. We do not want to be victims of such a law.”
