Central Bank’s net reserves sees sharp decrease, goes down by US$ 5.8 billion

The net reserve of the Central Bank (CB) fell by 5.8 billion dollars in the week of January 19. Thus, the most severe decrease since the announcement of the Reserve Option Mechanism (ROM) in December 2021 was recorded.

CB’s gross reserves decreased by 1.7 billion dollars to 138.1 billion dollars in the week of January 19. Gross reserves were recorded as 139.8 billion dollars in the previous week.

According to Bloomberg HT’s report, the decrease in net reserves became more apparent. Net reserves fell by 5.8 billion dollars to 23.7 billion dollars in the week of January 19. Thus, the fastest decrease in net reserves was recorded since the announcement of the ROM in December 2021.

Excluding swaps, net reserves were minus 41.8 billion dollars in the week of January 19. In the previous week, these reserves were at a level of minus 39.3 billion dollars.
