Covid-19 drug which is close to receiving approval in USA can be produced in Turkey

A board of health advisers in the USA has advised the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve the oral Covid-19 drug Molnupiravir, developed by the Merck pharmaceutical company. Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said that they had received license applications to produce Molnupiravir domestically.

The board of independent health experts, which advises the FDA, decided by a vote of 13 to 10 that the benefits of the drug Molnupiravir for the treatment of Covid-19, outweigh its risks.

As a result of the voting, the drug was recommended to patients with mild and moderate severity of Covid-19, especially the elderly and people with health problems such as asthma or obesity.

On the other hand, experts strongly emphasized that the drug should not be used by pregnant women because of the risk of causing birth problems, and called on the FDA to prescribe the drug to women after a pregnancy test.
