Depreciation of TL supports Turkey’s tourism: Number of foreign visitors doubles

The number of foreign visitors to Turkey has reached 29.3 million in the first eight months of the year with an increase of 108.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the data announced by the Ministry of Tourism, the number of foreign visitors to Turkey was 6.3 million in August, an increase of 58.3 percent compared to the same period last year.

The highest number of visitors from Germany

In August, Germany ranked first with 13.6 percent, Russia ranked second with 12.8 percent, and Britain ranked third with 8.7 percent in the ranking of the countries sending the highest numbers of visitors to Turkey. Britain was followed by Bulgaria and Iran.

In the first eight-month period, Germany ranked first with 13.13 percent in the ranking of the countries that sent the most visitors to Turkey. In second place was Russia with 10.2 percent, and in third place was Britain with a share of 8.1 percent.

Depreciation of TL has supported the sector

Speaking to Reuters, sector representatives point out that the depreciation of the TL supports the sector. TL has lost 28.4 percent since the beginning of the year and 54.5 percent in the last year. The TL experienced a depreciation of more than 40 percent last year.
