Disaster Narrowly Avoided at Antalya Airport – SunExpress Aircraft Suffers Landing Gear Failure During Taxi

A serious incident at Antalya Airport could have turned into a major disaster after a SunExpress aircraft experienced a landing gear malfunction while preparing for departure.
Landing Gear Detached During Taxi
At around 15:30 local time, a SunExpress plane operating the Antalya–Gaziantep route encountered a technical failure during taxi. According to initial reports, a wheel connected to the aircraft’s left main landing gear detached from its position. As a result, the aircraft settled onto the engine, and damage was also reported on the wing section.
The situation was immediately recognized by airport authorities, and rescue and firefighting (ARFF) teams were quickly dispatched to the scene.
Passengers Safely Evacuated
Following standard safety procedures, all passengers on board were evacuated in a controlled and secure manner. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
Passengers were later informed that they would be transported to Gaziantep on a different aircraft.
Aircraft to Undergo Technical Inspection
In an official statement, SunExpress confirmed that the aircraft operating flight XQ7646 from Antalya to Gaziantep experienced a technical malfunction in the landing gear strut during taxi.
The airline emphasized that all passengers were safely disembarked and that the aircraft has been taken out of service for a detailed technical inspection. The Antalya–Gaziantep flight will be completed using another aircraft.
A comprehensive technical evaluation of the incident is currently ongoing.
