The Turkish Electricity Trading and Contracting Company (TETAŞ) has made important changes in the conditions of electricity purchasing to support power generating plants with domestic coal. Accordingly, TETAŞ will purchase 50 percent of the electricity the domestic coal-fired power plants will produce by considering the installed power of such plants in commercial operation, in October.

It is reported that TETAS will pay TL 201.35 TL for every megawatt of electricity to be purchased in the first quarter of 2018. TETAŞ will also purchase half of the electricity produced by power plants using “a blend of domestic and imported coal”.

On the other hand, TETAS will get electricity from domestic coal-fired power plants as much as half of their installed power. The price for the first 3 months of the year is announced as TL 201.35 per megawatt with a perspective of 7 years put forward until 2024. However, TETAS will be entitled to increase the annual amount up to 40 percent.

The decision of the Council of Ministers to amend the decision on the principles and procedures for the procurement of electricity from TETAS’s domestic coal-fired power plants was published in the Official Gazette at the weekend.
