Earthquake in Turkey: Hospital employees hire a crane and rescue intensive care patients

Patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the damaged hospital in Antakya were rescued with a crane rented by hospital employees. Due to the damage to hospitals in the city, those rescued from the rubble are being sent to surrounding hospitals.

At 04:17 on February 6, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred in the PAZARCIK district of Kahramanmaras, and at 13:24, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras. The earthquakes were felt in many cities of Turkey, especially in the region. At least 285 aftershocks occurred, one of which had a magnitude of 6.6. As of February 7, the number of dead exceeded 4,000 and the number of injured surpassed 22 thousand 168 with thousands of destroyed buildings.

One of the places most affected by the earthquake was the Antakya region of Hatay. The damage to hospitals in Antakya deeply affected the health system. While those who were pulled out from under the rubble were sent to the surrounding hospitals, the field hospital established in the city is not enough to meet the needs.
