EARTHQUAKE IN TURKEY

The Election Declaration of AK PARTY has been announced. In the declaration, the steps to be taken in the field of insurance were listed one by one. The implementation of maintenance insurance, increasing the product diversity within the scope of income protection insurance in agriculture, increasing the amount of agricultural land registered in the farmer registration system from 23 to 30 percent under state-sponsored agricultural insurance, and developing and implementing legal protection insurance will be carried out in the field of insurance.

However, there are three items that catch attention. One of them is the expansion of the compulsory disaster insurance mechanism to cover all disaster hazards. The other is the development and dissemination of the insurance system, including ‘malpractice insurance’ in applications such as building reinforcement and renovation activities. The third is that insurance premiums relate flood risk levels to damages and losses and flood damages in residential areas are covered by DASK insurance.

COMPULSORY DISASTER INSURANCE

These three applications attract attention because both the building quality and the insurance system come to the fore after the Kahramanmaraş earthquake. Especially the fact that one of every two houses in the earthquake zone is covered by the DASK and the vast majority of housing damages are paid by the DASK show the importance of the DASK.

The restructuring of DASK, which is included in the Election Declaration, to cover all disasters, has been on the agenda for some time. Within this scope, there will no longer be compulsory earthquake insurance, but instead there will be ‘compulsory disaster insurance’, which will cover all disasters, especially earthquakes and floods, within the scope of DASK. The work of compulsory disaster insurance has been largely completed.
