Economy in Turkey: How Many Liras Is the Dollar Today? A New Record in Dollars and Euros!
On June 8, the dollar and the euro started the day with records again. Here is the latest situation in exchange rates, dollar and euro buying and selling prices in the interbank market. While TL experienced the biggest daily depreciation since the exchange rate crisis at the end of 2021 with 7.2% against the dollar yesterday, traders saw yesterday as a transition period from a structure where the public is the direction setter to a free market.
After the elections, President Erdogan appointed Mehmet Şimşek as Treasury and Finance Minister in order to combat the problems in the economy, including the economic programs that were said to be unsustainable.
On the other hand some information is circulated regarding the delay in appointment of Central Banl Governor. News circulated in concerned financial/political circles say the appointment to the Central Bank Presidency has been delayed due to the rise in exchange rates.
In yesterday’s messages, Simsek had shared following statements: “we confirm our commitment to policy-making on the basis of rules to increase predictability”. He had also expressed his first priority as “strengthening our team and designing a reliable program”.
DOLLAR AND EURO CONTINUE TO BREAK RECORDS
In the light of all these developments, the volatility in exchange rates continue today, as well… The dollar and the euro started the new day with a series of records once again. The dollar rose to 23.31, while the Euro is trading at 25.45.
EURO EXCEEDS 26 TL IN BANKS
In the banks, the dollar is changing hands at 24.39 and the euro at 26.14 lira.
