Economy in Turkey: Poverty threshold reaches 45 thousand TL

According to BISAM data, as of October, the hunger threshold reached 13 thousand TL. The poverty threshold also increased by 1,095 TL in a month, reaching 44,718 TL. To be able to eat healthy and balanced, a daily expenditure of 138.16 TL is required only for milk and dairy products.

POVERTY THRESHOLD REACHES 45 THOUSAND TL

The Unified Metal-Work Class Research Center (BISAM) announced its October 2023 hunger and poverty threshold report.

According to this, as of October, the hunger threshold, which includes the monthly kitchen expenses of a four-person family, reached 12,928 TL; and the poverty threshold, which includes education, health, housing, entertainment, heating, and transportation expenses, reached 44,718 TL.

According to BISAM data, in September, the hunger threshold was 12,612 TL, and the poverty threshold was 43,623 TL.

In a written statement by BISAM, it was stated that the daily cost of healthy and balanced nutrition exceeds 430 TL. The monthly equivalent of the foods that an adult man needs to consume for healthy and balanced nutrition was 3,538 TL.

This value was 3,387 TL for an adult woman, 3,639 TL for a young person aged 15-18, and 2,365 TL for a child aged 4-6.

138 TL IS SPENT DAILY ON MILK AND DAIRY PRODUCTS

According to BISAM’s calculation, the highest cost group in daily expenditures in September 2023 is the milk and dairy products group, with a required expenditure of 138.16 TL. The minimum expenditure for the meat, chicken, and fish group was highlighted as 81.94 TL.

The daily expenditure for vegetables and fruits reached 89.38 TL; the daily expenditure for bread was 33.38 TL, and for solid and liquid oil, it was 23.99 TL.
