Economy in Turkey: Tax expert says 16 out of 20 cigarettes in a package are for tax

Tax expert Ozan Bingol said that the tax rate on a pack of cigarettes is about 80 percent.
Bingöl said that four cigarettes in a package (of 20) sold for 50 liras belong to citizens’, and 16 cigarettes aare for the state (tax).
Sharing on his Twitter account, Bingol said: “Today, the tax burden on a pack of cigarettes sold for 50 pounds is about 80 percent. An average of 40 TL of a 50-TL pack of cigarettes is for tax. The remaining 10 TL are elements such as producer cost, distribution expense, seller profit. In other words, 16 cigarettes out of 20 cigarettes in a package cover taxes.”
