Economy in Turkey: Türk-İş says food inflation in September increased by 9.3 percent

According to calculations by Türk-İş, food inflation in Ankara increased by 9.31% in September, raising the poverty threshold to 13,334 Turkish Lira. The report emphasizes that the monthly food expenditure for a family of four has increased to five times the amount from January 2021 to September 2023.

The Turkish Confederation of Workers’ Unions (Türk-İş) announced that the necessary monthly food expenditure for a family of four in Ankara had increased by 9.31% in June, with an annual increase of 84.04%, according to their data.

According to Türk-İş data, the poverty threshold for a family of four in September increased to 13,334 TL, while the minimum wage threshold rose to 43,433 TL.

The cost of living for a single working individual, according to the research, has increased to 17,336 TL. The statement highlights that the primary focus in income policy should be to ensure that incomes increase more than the real inflation rate.
