As heavy rainfall continues to affect the country, a disaster warning has been issued for Istanbul. İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has made critical announcements at AKOM (Disaster Coordination Center) and urged citizens to take precautions. İmamoğlu stated in his announcements, “Do not go outside unless it’s absolutely necessary.”

İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu issued a critical warning to Istanbul residents regarding the severe rainfall expected this evening in his statements at AKOM. İmamoğlu made the following statements:

DISASTER COULD OCCUR!

“The more we clarify and complete our preparations in advance, the less likely we are to receive distressing news. According to the statements made by the Meteorology Institution, it appears that there will be heavy rainfall in Istanbul around 22:00. There is a possibility of more than 100 kilograms of rain in localized areas. To clarify the significance of this, I would like to say that if the amount of rain mentioned for this evening falls in areas such as Arnavutköy and Çatalca, these regions will receive the amount of rain that they typically get in 3 years in just one night. This is the scale of the disaster we are facing. As of now, our personnel will be in the field, and 2043 of our vehicles will also be in the field. Dear fellow citizens, you should spend this evening as cautiously as possible and avoid going outside unless it is absolutely necessary. Companies and organizations that operate in production facilities and ground floors where precautions may be problematic should also be cautious.”
