Empty hotels offer discounts of up to 50% under the name of ‘summer deals’ to attract customers

Hotels that remain vacant during the peak season have started offering discounts of up to 50% under the name of ‘summer deals’ to attract customers. The cost of a 4-night holiday, which would normally amount to 46,000 TL, has decreased to as low as 31,000 TL after the discounts.
Hotels have begun offering consecutive discounts under the ‘summer deals’ in order to fill the vacant rooms through last-minute sales.
The discount rate on accommodation fees has reached up to 50%, especially in hotels trying to attract customers through sponsored content on social media.
Citizens wishing to take advantage of this campaign initiated by the tourism sector may benefit from even higher discounts if they make group reservations.
According to the news, the price for a 3-night all-inclusive stay for two people at a hotel in Antalya Kemer has decreased from 18,000 TL to 12,600 TL, and a hotel in Marmaris Turunç has reduced the price for a 4-night stay in August for two people from around 46,000 TL to 31,400 TL.
PRICES DECREASE BASED ON OCCUPANCY RATES
The Chief Advisor to the President of TÜRSAB, explained that discounted prices offered to the public through early bookings had been popular, but sales had started to decline after these discounts ended.
Kuk, saying “July and August are the periods with the highest prices, but sales are not going well,” added, “Therefore, discounts have started again. The travel agency tells the hotel ‘sales are not coming in, let’s offer discounts’; the discount rate is determined based on the hotel’s occupancy rate. The lower the hotel’s occupancy rate, the higher the discount rate.”
‘CONTACT THE AGENCY OR THE HOTEL’
So, how can citizens access these discounted prices?
According to the information provided by Kuk, most of the advertisements for these discounts on social media are made through travel agencies. Citizens who wish to benefit from these campaigns can call travel agencies to get information about the hotels with discounts and make reservations. Since not every hotel participates in this discount campaign, the travel agency provides information to customers about which hotels are offering discounts during which periods and at what rates.
Prices offered to those making group reservations can drop even further. In addition, citizens can also obtain information by directly calling the hotels they see advertised with discounts on social media.
DISCOUNTS ARE LIMITED TO ONE OR TWO WEEKS
Furthermore, it is mentioned that these discounts initiated by hotels to boost occupancy rates are limited to one or two weeks. However, tourism professionals have hinted that if these campaigns are popular, discounts may continue into August.
HIGH PRICE HOPES KEEP THE DISCOUNTS SHORT
According to Hamit Kuk, tourism professionals still hold hopes of selling rooms at high prices. Therefore, Kuk mentioned that the duration of these discounts is kept short, stating that “Hotels offer discounts for one or two weeks ahead. This is the ‘last-minute of the last minute discount.’ Because hotels set their expectations high, thinking they can sell at a good price. However, for sales to be more effective, they need to offer discounts for a longer period.” Kuk’s expectation is that discounts will continue into August.
