Most recently, Dr. Ersin Mahmutluoğlu, the Chief Physician of Hatay Erzin State Hospital, had lost his life due to COVID-19. The Ankara Chamber of Medicine had reported today that COVID-19 cases are increasing and hospitals are “raising alarms.”

The clinical experiences of healthcare professionals are also indicating a significant increase in COVID-19 cases.

For example, Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, in an internal communication sent out as a warning, reported that the positivity rate in PCR tests conducted in the hospital had risen from 3% to 20% in the last 24 hours. They urged employees to take precautions by wearing masks and ensuring that others do the same.

We cannot know the official numbers because it has been a long time since the Ministry of Health provided updates. The most recent data shared on the Ministry’s Coronavirus Information Platform dates back to November 2022. Due to the inability to conduct sufficient surveillance and testing for over a year, the full impact of COVID-19 on public health is not fully understood.
