Exchange rates start the day with a rise! Yesterday’s intervention turns out to be useless
After Erdogan’s remarks on the joint broadcast on Tuesday evening, CBRT intervened in the dollar which saw 13.95 yesterday and dropped it to 12.50. However while the intervention was ongoing, Erdogan made a new exchange rate statement at the AK Party group meeting and dollar regained its position it had lost, in 17 minutes. Last night, Treasury and Finance Minister Elvan resigned. After all, the dollar which started the new day with a rapid upward movement, saw 13.47 lira.
The dollar which saw its historic peak of up to 14 lira during the week, is priced above 13 lira level after it fell to same level for a short time, after the intervention of the Central Bank yesterday.
The dollar was at 13.24 at the close yesterday and the euro, which reached its peak at 15.72, started the day at 15.27 TL. It had closed at 14.98 TL yesterday.
