Experts say there are faults in BALIKESIR that can produce a 7.2 earthquake

“In BALIKESIR where consecutive earthquakes occurred during the night, there are fault lines which will produce a 7.2 earthquake” experts have stated.

Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.1 and 4.7 occurred during the night in the Karesi district of BALIKESIR. This earthquake was followed by aftershocks. There have been more than 50 concussions in the last 12 hours.

THERE ARE FAULT FRAGMENTS THAT CAN CAUSE 7.2 MAGNITUDE

A professor from Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) Earthquake Research and Application Center made a statement about the earthquakes in question. He said, “There are fault fragments which have been silent for a long time in this Havran Balikesir fault zone and that will produce earthquakes up to 7.2 magnitude.”

NECESSARY TO GIVE PRIORITY TO EFFORTS TO REDUCE DAMAGE SIZE

He went on to say, “Therefore, it is necessary to give priority to efforts aimed at reducing earthquake damage at the provincial level of BALIKESIR, to process active fault zones on zoning maps, to determine earthquake-resistant building stock on a building basis, to implement provincial disaster risk reduction plans and to complete the urban transformation roadmap project.”
