AHMET ERCAN PROFESSOR STATEMENT ERZIN

It has been on the agenda for a while that the Erzin district was not destroyed in Hatay, which was hit by the devastating earthquake in Turkey. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Övgün Ercan explained this situation with the geological structure on which the district was founded.

In Hatay, one of the cities that faced the greatest destruction in the Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes, there was a lot of talk that no structures were severely damaged in the Erzin district.

Regarding this situation of the district, Geophysical Master Engineer Ercan made a statement about the reason why there was no damage in said town. Prof. Dr. Ercan explained this situation in his share via Twitter by saying, “The reason why Erzin was not destroyed is that it was settled on basalt structure.”

(Note: The basalt is a promising reinforcing fiber because it has a relatively higher tensile strength and a density similar to that of a concrete matrix as well as no corrosion possibility. GOOGLE)

After the earthquake Mayor of Erzin Ökkeş Elmasoğlu had given interviews about the lack of destruction in the district and said “We have not allowed illegal construction in our town. We saw to it everything was done as due (to summarize). Now people are conveying their gratitude, thanks.”
