Earthquake in Turkey: Coordinator governor says picture 5 times worse than announced figures

The statements of Şırnak Governor Osman Bilgin, appointed as the coordinating governor of Nurdağı district of Gaziantep due to the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes caused much reaction on social media. The governor said, “Sorry, maybe we came late, but the situation is much more serious than you know and what you have seen. It is at least 3-4, maybe 5 times worse than the announced figures.”

The number of casualties due to earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş exceeded 40 thousand and the number of injured exceeded 100 thousand. While the reactions to the government in the region regarding search and rescue efforts and assistance were continuing, statements such as confession by Şırnak Governor Osman Bilgin, who was appointed as the coordinating governor in Nurdağı district of Gaziantep, made a mark on the agenda.

Osman Bilgin used the following statements during his meeting with the earthquake victims:

WE ARE KNOCKING DOWN 100 PERCENT OF IT: “The disaster we are experiencing is a very big disaster. I want to give an example. We are abolishing the Nurdağı district. We are completely knocking it down, one hundred percent. I’m telling you this so that you can understand the disaster that happened. There are currently apartment buildings with 150 dead people under the wreckage.”
