Loss of life in earthquakes increases to 40,689: rescue efforts completed except two provinces

AFAD Chairman Yunus Sezer announced that the number of people who lost their lives in the earthquakes had increased to 40 thousand 689. The 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes that occurred on February 6 were felt in 10 provinces. The number of people who lost their lives is increasing every day.

The AFAD president, who made a statement today, announced that the number of those who lost their lives had increased to 40 thousand 689.

Stating that 460 thousand 945 people had been evacuated from the earthquake zone, Sezer announced that search and rescue operations had been completed in the provinces except for Kahramanmaraş and Hatay.

He said, “Our search and rescue efforts in nearly 40 buildings are continuing with great caution” adding that they were also working with the goal of ‘restoration’.
