Exports increased by 1.4% in December 2012

The statistical data regarding exports and imports for December 2012 was released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on 31st January 2013.

Based on said report exports increased by 1.4 % to reach 12 646 Million Dollars and imports decreased by 3.7 % go down to reached to 19 825 Million Dollars as compared to December 2011.

In the same month, foreign trade deficit decreased from 8 116 Million Dollars to 7 178 Million Dollars bring down the deficit figure by 11.6 percent

Calendar adjusted exports and imports increased by 4.7 % and 0.2 % compared with December 2011. Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports and imports decreased by 4.5 % and 3.6 % compared with the previous month.

As compared to the same month of the previous year, exports to EU were 4,953 Million Dollars decreased by 4.8 %. The proportion of the EU countries was 39.2% in December 2012 while it was 41.7 % in December 2011.

It was also recorded in the same report that in December 2012, the main partner country for exports was Iraq with 1,029 Million Dollars showing an increase of 10.6 %. Iraq was followed by Germany (989 Million Dollars), United Arab Emirates (694 Million Dollars) and the United Kingdom (690 Million Dollars).

As for imports the leading country was Russia and Turkey’s imports from this country were 2,474 Million Dollar whereas imports from Germany stayed at 2,106 Million Dollars. China ranked number 3 with 1,754 Million Dollars and Italy ranked with 1,052 Million Dollars.

In said period, the top categories for imports were “mineral fuels and oils” 5,141 Million Dollars and then “boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances” 2,534 Million Dollars, “vehicle other than railway or tramway rolling-stock, parts thereof” 1,521 Million Dollars and “iron and steel” 1,497 Million Dollars.
