Fake booze disaster: Death toll rises to 13 in incidents in Izmir and Kırıkkale

In Kırıkkale and Izmir where the fake booze events took place, the number of those who lost their lives rose to 13. In Izmir, 16 people are being treated in hospitals while 10 people are in custody as part of the investigation. In Karabaglar, Konak, Bayraklı, Bornova and Gaziemir districts yesterday, 18 people who allegedly had fake drinks were hospitalized with nausea and loss of vision. 4 people died and 2 people who were treated were discharged. In addition, 6 new patients were also treated in hospitals.

After the incident, police raided 11 businesses and 2 warehouses, most of which were spice shops. 4 vehicles were also searched. 10 people who were found to have sold fake ethyl alcohol and liquor were detained during the operations. Police inquiries into the suspects are reportedly ongoing.

Two more of the 18 people who were treated at the hospital could not be saved today despite the best efforts of doctors. Thus, the death toll rose to 6.

In a statement, the police said that those who buy ethyl alcohol from outside and make homemade drinks should not consume ethyl alcohol in any way.

In Kırıkkale, 8 people stating that they had been poisoned in the last 3 days were admitted to hospitals. 7 of those treated in hospital died, while the other patient is still in intensive care.
