Fethiye... The town favored most by foreigners wishing to settle in Turkey

FETHIYEOne of the most beautiful spots in Turkey as well as the world… How do we know? Otherwise thousands of Brits would not be flocking to this dreamlike place to settle and spend the rest of their lives here. Joking apart, Fethiye is by all means worth all the attention it receives from foreigners, Brits to be in the first place.

Fethiye’s history goes back to the 5th century B.C. and it was then called TELMESSOS. Fethiye is probably one of the rare spots where one can view an unparalleled harmony of blue and green, thanks to the Taurus Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.

The town has a population of about 150 thousand people together with its villages etc. which normally increases in the summer season. Fethiye offers 600 accommodation facilities with more than 50 thousand bed capacity and 200 travel agencies ready to render services to foreign guest visiting the place.

Talking about tourism, Fethiye has much more to offer than history and sun & sea. In Fethiye, visitors can enjoy many alternative sports such as paragliding – jumps made on the turquoise waters of Dead Sea (Ölüdeniz) from the summit of 2,000 m high Babadağ – or trekking on the 535 km long Lycian road, or else go on a daily boat trip from Fethiye center, Çalış and Ölüdeniz Beach which offer the opportunity of seeing and swimming in some of the most beautiful waters at at world renowned break places such as 12 Islands, Butterfly Valley, Cold Water, Deve Beach, Aquarium Beach, St.Nikolas Island, Pumpkin, Paradise and Pirate Bays.

Saklıkent Canyon, which is 18 kilometers long and 30 minutes to Fethiye provides the opportunity of rafting to domestic and foreign visitors.

As for history, The Telmessos Antique Theater, which has witnessed the Roman-Byzantine-Ottoman civilizations is one of the rare artifacts of the world as it is both in the city center and immediately on the shore as well.

Kayaköy is another center of attraction thanks to the bays and islands surrounding it.

Göcek, which is 35 km from Fethiye and 22 km from Dalaman Airport, is indispensable especially for domestic and foreign yachtsmen. Gocek, with its 4 yacht harbors, is an invaluable port for those coming to the region.

To recap if you happen to decide to visit Fethiye one day – that is if you have not done so yet – you will certainly not regret it. The good part is there are so many English speaking people (Brits settled to be in the first place) you might most likely feel at home, even
