Flood in western Black Sea of Turkey causes 70 lost lives in 3 provinces

FLOOD IN BLACK SEA REGION TURKEY

As cleanup and search and rescue efforts continue in the damaged areas, casualties are also increasing. According to the latest AFAD statement, the total number of casualties have risen to 70 (updated 16.08.21)

The number of casualties in Kastamonu was 54. On the other hand, 9 casualties in Sinop and 1 in Bartin are reported. 77 people have been reported missing, including 62 in Kastamonu and 15 in Sinop. The search for the missing citizens continues decisively.

Also, as part of the investigation launched after the disaster, the contractor of a collapsed building in Kastamonu was given a detention order.

Inebolu Public Prosecutor’s office made a written statement that read “a decision has been made to detain the contractor of a collapsed building in accordance with the  technical examination and expert reports and due action will be taken. Also, the identification of our deceased citizens and the examination and autopsy of the dead are continuing.”
