Experts for Borsa Istanbul, where volatility has increased, have made comments such as “Foreigners have started to take Turkish assets on their radar. Election uncertainties have also weakened the recovery efforts of our markets.”

The BIST 100 index in Borsa Istanbul which made a return of about 200 percent last year, made a weak start to 2023. After the Kahramanmaraş-based earthquakes, the stock market is trying to keep afloat with regulations and supports.

UNCERTAINTIES HAVE WEAKENED RECOVERY EFFORT OF THE MARKETS

An executive from Phillip Capital Domestic Markets Group said that the developments both at home and abroad in recent months continued to disrupt the balance of the markets.

Same person stated that the earthquakes postponed the expectations of recovery in macroeconomic data, adding “This situation caused volatility in the Borsa Istanbul wing, while the uncertainties caused by the approach of the election weakened the recovery efforts of our markets.”

He noted that the banking crises that had started in the United States and spread to Europe prevented the expected support from outside and also these consecutive negativities suppressed Borsa Istanbul’s desire for upward movement. He stated that purchases came due to the ‘perception of cheapness’ below 5000 points in the BIST 100 index.
