Fuel hikes upset routine of citizens: 9 out of 10 people can’t use their cars

The fact that fuel prices have increased by more than 300 percent in the last year has led to a change in the lifestyle of citizens. According to a study conducted 91 percent of car owners say that they use their vehicles less, while the proportion of those who say that they continue to use it as usual is only 8 percent.

A public opinion research company has investigated how fuel prices, which have risen by more than 300 percent in the last year and are based on 25 TL per liter, have affected the usage trends of car owners. The research conducted by the online survey method with 800 representative individuals over the age of 18 revealed the following striking results:

CAR OWNERS DON’T USE THEIR VEHICLES UNLESS THEY HAVE TO

It is observed that with the hikes in fuel, car owners tend to use their vehicles less. Today, 91 percent of car owners say that they use their vehicles less, while the proportion of those who say that they continue to use them only as usual is 8 percent.

87 percent of car owners say that they used to use their car when they wanted to, but now they are trying not to use it unless it is necessary. The proportion of car owners who say that they no longer go for a weekend trip with their vehicles is 76 percent, and the proportion of those who do not go shopping with their vehicles is 69 percent.

71 percent of the employees who own a car have started to prefer public transportation rather than going to work with their own vehicles. As another savings method, it is preferred to go to work by car with friends who live nearby and share expenses.

39 PERCENT CAN NEVER FILL UP THEIR TANK COMPLETELY

Car owners use their vehicles less, as well as being more careful when buying fuel oil. 9 out of every 100 car owners buy a smaller amount of gasoline than before. 39 percent have never filled up their tank fully but are now buying less fuel oil than before.

3 OUT OF EVERY 10 CAR OWNERS TEND TO SELL THEIR CARS

60 percent of car owners do not think about selling their car, while 12 percent want to sell their car and buy a new one instead. On the other hand, 28 percent of car owners think about selling their car and not buying a new one instead.
