Furniture, paper and forestry products exports expected to break new record in 2019
Turkey’s January-November period furniture, paper and forest products exports increased to US$ 5 billion 7 million 810 thousand corresponding to an increase of 9.91 percent compared to the same period in 2018. The sector will break a new record if another US$ 7 million worth of goods are exported. The current record was achieved with US$ 5 billion 14 million 613 thousand in 2018.
In 11 months of this year, the sector exported furniture and forest products, which were prepared in many provinces, Istanbul, Bursa and Kayseri to be in the first place, to 220 different markets abroad. It increased. The sector, which exported 458 million dollars in December, last year, is expected to break the new record with its export this month.
On the other hand, furniture industry expects to realize sales worth TL 60 billion in the domestic market. Making a comment on the issue Federation of furniture associations (MOSFED) President noted that the discount implementation had made them happy.
The president said 2020 was expected to become the year of Turkey’s furniture sector adding “It is very important for us that the VAT reduction is permanent. The timing was also very good. VAT reduction eliminates unfair competition in the domestic market. The consumer will get products at a much more affordable price. It will have a positive effect on inflation. Domestic market sales will increase. Moreover, our entrepreneurs who are not under price pressure will sell more goods abroad with added value. We estimate that domestic Sunday sales will exceed TL 60 billion this year. With interest rates falling, new opportunities to buy new houses have risen. No doubt this will also have a positive impact on the furniture sector.
