Geologist draws attention to three most risky places in possible Istanbul earthquake

Celal Sengor a prominent geologist has said that the most risky areas of Istanbul against earthquakes are Yeşilköy, Bakırköy and Tuzla. Geologist Prof. Dr. Celal Sengor listed the places closest to the fault line in Istanbul and said, “Buyukcekmece, Kucukcekmece, Avcilar, Samatya, Yedikule, Fenerbahce, Kartal, Tuzla and the Islands. These are very close to the fault.”

After the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş and affected 11 provinces, the expected earthquake in Istanbul has also been on the agenda.

A professor named Dr. Celal SENGOR was a guest on television for a program on ‘Earthquakes” to answered many questions about a possible earthquake in Istanbul. Geologist Prof. Dr. Celal Sengor listed the places, very close to the fault line in Istanbul and shared following.

“The red dots are where the biggest accelerations will be felt. The impact is decreasing upwards. Between Büyük Çekmece and Küçük Çekmece, between Küçük Kecekmece and the Golden Horn, these are the places that go parallel to the beach. Avcılar, Samatya, Yedikule … When we pass to the opposite side (Anatolian Side) Fenerbahce, when we go a little further, Kartal-Tuzla and the Islands … These regions are very close to the fault.”
